Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
Are instructors “cleared” to work with children?
A: All our instructors and assistants have been subjected to an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau
(CRB) check. We also adhere to a strict Child Protection Policy in accordance with the British Heart Foundation Guidelines.
Q: What age groups are taught? Can I bring my 8-year old to an adult course?
A: Although the ideal age is 8-years and above, we have successfully taught children as young as 5-years of age. We have also successfully taught mixed classes of adults and children; we simply use a more appropriate video when we have youngsters in the class. There is no upper age limit.
Q: What is the cost of attending a Heartstart UK Emergency Life Support Course?
A: The course is completely free of charge although we request a small optional donation if you can afford this to help us maintain the hygiene of our manikins.
Q: What time of day are courses run?
A: We can arrange courses to suit you as we have instructors available at any time of the day or week.
Q: How many people can attend the course?
A: We can run courses for between 6 and 30 persons depending on the room size.
Q: How long does the course take?
A: The course lasts around two and a quarter hours if held as one session or we can spread the course over three one hour sessions as we do when teaching in schools.
Q: Where are the courses held?
A: We deliver courses at various locations. We can arrange tuition for up to 20 persons at the Hurst Leisure Centre, Brimpton Road, Baughurst, or for up to 30 persons at your own location depending on the size of the room.
Q: What equipment do I need to provide for you?
A: We need a table large enough for our laptop and projector and a 13A power outlet within 10 metres; we also need enough chairs for adults or mats for youngsters to sit on. We will bring all other items of equipment required for the course.
Q: I have a disability that prevents me from kneeling; can I still attend the course?
A: Yes. We have successfully taught CPR to persons who are unable to kneel by placing the manikin on a sturdy table. Even if you are unable to perform the practical elements of the course yourself, you would still be able to tell someone else what to do in an emergency.
Q: How should I dress to attend the course?
A: Bearing in mind that there are practical elements to the course, where you will be required to roll on the floor, trousers are indeed the best option.
Q:
Will attendance on the course
give me a first aid qualification?
A: The quick answer
is “no”, as the course only covers 6 of the emergency elements of first
aid and there is no examination. We
do, however, issue an attendance certificate.
